Stevens Piano Studio

ABOUT THE STUDIO

The Stevens Studio's aim is simple: to create students for whom music is a necessity of life. Our focus is on helping all kinds of learners build lifetime music-making skills. Some students may go on to make music a lifetime career. But the studio's focus is not merely on winning competitions or developing concert artists. Building independent thinkers and independent musicians is what we do. Our program is built on five pillars: high quality music, healthy tone production, fluent music reading, functional keyboard skills and improvisation.

Our methods, however, are unique. Musical skills are built from the inside out . aurally and physically. Pianistic skills are carefully developed on a healthy biomechanical foundation which includes the whole body . not just the hands. Musical literacy is built slowly and sequentially and is taught aurally as well as visually. Functional keyboard skills such as transposition, harmonization and strong sight reading are just as important as building repertoire and ensure comprehensive musicianship.

Students are not accepted on the basis of musical talent, but on their willingness to learn and complete assignments. Four trial lessons are suggested before beginning study to ensure that our studio is the one for you.
