I am pleased
that you may wish to study piano with me.
However, you should make your choice carefully, taking into
consideration the following: · To study at the Stevens Studio, students only need
to do two things, but these two things are firm: have a willing, cooperative
attitude and complete weekly assignments. · Your piano lesson is one hour during the week of
concentrated learning time. Not
entertainment, not play time and not baby sitting. You will have goals each year which you are
expected to meet. These goals will be
measured in different ways: through
Guild Auditions, through Skills Day, monthly sight reading exams and
participation in outside festivals.
Failure to meet these goals wastes both your time and money and
deprives interested students of an available slot. · Pursuing piano study successfully requires a
scheduled commitment to practice five days a week. If you do not have time for these practice
days and already have several activities that take up lots of your spare time,
this studio may not be a good fit for you. · Monthly group lessons are required. While flexibility is built into certain
yearly activities, if you require a great deal of flexibility, this studio
may not be for you. · When you have spent the year diligently completing
the assigned work, you will have a year’s worth of solid accomplishments that
you can point to with pride! I invite you to study piano with me because I
believe that studying music gives you invaluable experience, knowledge and
habits unavailable anywhere else.
Specifically, it will form the character qualities (self control,
diligence, perseverance) that will help you to make the best choices in your
adult years. Listening to, playing and
sharing music will help you to love and enjoy beauty. And beauty points us to what is good and
what is true. |
